In Singapore, the Factories (Industrial Safety Helmets) Notification 1986 requires all industrial safety helmets provided and maintained for the use of persons employed in a factory under SS98-1977 Factories Act, to be tested to conform to Singapore Standards SS98-1997 specification for safety helmets.
Tips for proper use of your head protection :-

Hard hats should be worn such that the shell sits squarely on your head - not tipped back or to the side. |
| • |
Hard hats should not be modified in any way. Do not remove the suspension, drill holes, inscribe or paint the hat. |
| • |
The clearance between our head and the inner shell is necessary for proper protection. Do not carry or store items in hard hats. |
| • |
Protect hard hats from direct sunlight or extreme heat. Sunlight can weaken the shell and high heat can rot the suspension. |
| • |
Inspect hard hats and suspension for damage, dents, or cracks on a regular basis. The suspension should be checked for cracks, torn cradle straps, loose headbands or any other damage. |
| • |
Headgear should be cleaned at least once a month to remove oil, grease, chemicals and sweat. Use a mild detergent and water for cleaning. |
